In addition to our many therapy llamas and one miniature horse, we now have three Poodles registered with Pet Partners for therapy work. All of them volunteer only at the schools where Niki teaches. The llamas and mini horse are primarily for hospice, youth camps and nursing facilities. Sissy, Maverick & Scarlett are also able to assist in crisis situations.

Carrington's Sicilian Rhapsody aka Sissy was a Pet Partners Complex Registered therapy dog. In 2019, we took the plunge after years of only having llamas for therapy and got Sissy registered. This was done so she could volunteer at the school where Niki teaches.
Sissy was a beloved member of the Mount Baker Junior and Senior high staff. During her time at school she helped to make students happy and relaxed. Many students looked for her daily and really enjoy spending time with her. The timing of Sissy's work was instrumental in getting many kids through the stress of COVID learning. Her work with students and staff was so good, that a whole program resulted from her good deeds.
Like any good Poodle, Sissy took her job seriously and did her best to make every visit matter to those that needed her! Sissy came from Dianne Hopper at Carrington Poodles.
At almost 15, Sissy was due to retire at the end of the 2022-2023 school year and let Scarlett take over her duties. The day prior to the last day of school she crossed the rainbow bridge. Sissy worked until the very end and was at school weeks prior to her passing. She was still registered with Pet Partners and desperately wanted to be with her school friends.

Meet Maverick our little rescue Poodle! He was evaluated a week before everything shut down with COVID here in Washington state. He passed with a Complex rating and was excited to begin working at the school where Niki is a teacher.
Maverick came from a rescue group in the mid-west in 2018 and was less than a year old. He was sold as a puppy to an elderly couple who should have never had him. The family turned him over to a rescue group after the man was being too rough with him.
When we got Maverick, he had no recall and was afraid of everything. He also had a lot of anxiety and fear of anything deemed unusual in his world.
Fast forward, he is now a confident and happy little guy. He is well mannered and has worked hard to get through his issues to become the handsome boy you see. His big sister Sicily is a Standard Poodle, and a beloved therapy dog at our school.
Maverick has proven to be the top therapy dog at school with his ability to help kids who need his kind loving presence. His therapy work consists of being held, laying in laps and snuggling up to a leg or foot while kids work. He truly is an incredible therapy dog. This is his true calling and something he truly enjoys being able to do.
We normally use llamas for therapy work (with PP since 2006) and dogs were a new partner for us to be using for therapy! Poodles make fabulous therapy dogs and they are truly hypoallergenic.
Maverick frequently has his tongue sticking out and is quite the clown! Because of this, kids frequently take selfies with him while his tongue is out.

Scarlett joined our pack in May of 2021. As Sissy started to get older, it seemed like it was time to start training her replacement. She will have big paws to fill as she works to be the next canine therapy star at our school.
When I talked to Shiela at Coplar Creek Standard Poodles, I described the ideal therapy dog I wanted. Calm, sweet, kind, smart, easily trained and happy. Healthy as well. Not only is Scarlett all of these things but, she is beautiful. She has been the easiest puppy we have ever had and is incredibly loving. I see a long therapy career ahead of her.
UPDATE February 2022 Scarlett passed her Pet Partners evaluation with a Predictable rating. We got to work and socialized her more and worked through her snobby Poodle behavior and she re-evaluated in June 2022 and passed with a Complex rating. Fall of 2022, she joined the Mount Baker School District dog program.
Jeff dearly loves his big Poodles and Scarlett was his 2021 birthday gift. He loans her to work on campus!
